The lookout tower Heřmanice is just few hundreds of meters behind the north-west boarder of Jizerské hory. The tower is in Frýdlant district in Liberec region. We can find it just 2 kilometers away from polish boarder between cities Frýdlant and Bogatynia. Despite the tower ranks among the youngest ones in the region its exceptionally popular. The plan was to build it in 2009, However due to the floods in Heřmanice the construction was in 2012.
Heřmanice lookout tower is a design enterprise of Liberec architectonic group Mjölk. They have offered the tower to couple of other towns for realization, but luckily in the end Heřmanice took over this wonderful marvel. The architects named this structure “cucumber”. On the other hand some people call it “penis”. This lookout tower is already second construction of architects from Mjolk.
The lookout tower Heřmanice is aspiring on 48 wooden legs with circular ground projection. Actually in detail we are speaking about 22 faces. As a main material architects opted for larche wood. This wood should change the color in time. In the middle of the tower there is a double staircase. One lane for ascending tourists, and the second for descending ones. The lookout tower has two view platforms. One is in height of approximately 22 meters. The second in height 22 meters. Total height is almost 24 meters. The construction was financed by EU project for developement of tourism.
Despite the lookout tower Heřmanice is not built on any hill rthe views are exceptionally wide. Firstly on the east side You can enjoy views of entire Jizerské hory with majestic mountain Smrk (1222m). Secondly on the west side You can observe Lužické hory. Last thing a man can see is the infamous powerplant in Turow.
